Birthday Fun and Crystal Skull Ponderings - 2009-09-28 19:19:57

I had a birthday last week - and I think I'm pretty happy about that. Mainly because I've started to look on my birthday as the beginning of Halloween for me, which has always been my favorite season. I like the designs and icons used in the decorations (bats and skulls and such), and though orange isn't my favorite color, I do like it mixed in with other fall colors. So the bouquet of flowers was perfect - and made me smile a lot because it was in the same colors and flowers as my wedding bouquet. (Thanks Joyce and Bill!) We have yet to go out for a birthday dinner - still pondering places to go for that.
Jon got me that great crystal skull - which is full of vodka. I look forward to taking more photos of it later - because it has all sorts of fun distortions of the surroundings you can do with it. As always I'm amazed with Jon's ability to come up with bizarre things that I just adore. (I have no idea how he manages it - and it's slightly maddening as I have the hardest time thinking of what to get him!)

That second link gives you a lot of closeup photos of the bottle.
And yes, that is indeed the
Dan Aykroyd of the film world that you're thinking of that's behind this skull. I have an idea that there's a copyright on "crystal skull" somewhere that made them go with "crystal head" instead - but that's just a guess. They also might not have wanted to get it confused with the
Indiana Jones film (which I never did get around to seeing, but no loss, I've read enough about it).
Read more on Aykroyd here:
Dan Aykroyd: From Ghostbuster to Winemaker
"Delish sat down with Canada’s funniest export, Dan Aykroyd, to dish on our kind of entertainment — dining and wining. Oh, and UFOs."
"...I didn’t realize the Indiana Jones movie was about the crystal skull legends, which I have followed for 13 years. We designed a skull-shaped bottle from Bruni glass, an art piece which I think everyone will want. [The vodka] is a pure spirit from Newfoundland glacial pool water, and peaches and cream corn mash. We’re releasing it in October and calling it the Crystal Head Vodka."
Randomly I remember seeing Aykroyd on a television drama called
Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, which was presented in a way that could make you think it was all true stories - but of course it was fictional. For some reason I remembered it having something to do with UFOs as well, but apparently not.
As a last bit of seasonal and birthday oddness - a woodchuck in a party hat.
I think he's popping out of a birthday cake too. Boy I wish I lived closer to
that antique store - it was a wonderful place.
